Artist: The Felice Brothers Title: The Felice
Brothers Label: Team Love
Synopsis:
The Felice Brothers are some good ol'
boys playing the music they grew up on, sticking to their roots. The music on
this CD is some rather good roots/folk/country music with some blues and
ragtime tossed in. There are some really awesome, fun songs on this CD, but the
rest are just ok. At first I didn't really like any other songs besides a
couple, but after several more listens, a few more songs have grown on me. I love
the main singers voice and it seems all the brothers
have a good masteryt of their instuments.
Most of the songs have a campy/homey feel to them, like they kind of feel like
inside jokes to the brothers (this is hard to explain), like they are performing
for their friends, which isn't always good on an album, but it works here-makes
me feel l ike part of the family. I especially enjoy
the songs where the chorus has a lot of people singing. The back of this promo
CD says they have been compared to Woody Guthrie (and they spelled his name
wrong mind you-"woodie"). The Felice Brothers are pretty good, but they will never be
able to even lick the soles of Woody Guthrie's shoes.
Recommended Tracks:
*3. "Frankie's Gun" - Easily the best song-it is the most fun
and the best written; everything is awesome on this song-awesome subject matter
too. If this was a single it would get 10/10 rating.
2. "Greatest Show On Earth" - Slow at first, with a sweet
piano part, and an eerie bass line, then definitely picks up and brings it all
together and turns into a very fun song. Awesome piano parts pared with a horn
section.
8. "Saint Stephen's End" - A really fun piano diddy, with a lot of the Brothers' friends singing along.
Rating (1-10): 5
