Bred in the Live Music Capital of the World, Not in the Face is a loud, rambunctious duo with serious talent. Bikini starts out with a Buddy Holly inspired track called “Way to Go Baby” that is perfectly 50’s rockabilly meets garage. Next up is arguably the best track, “Downtown Girl,” which sounds like a lo-fi Bruce Springsteen. Throughout the record Jonathan Terrell’s vocals are gritty and on point and Wes Cargal on the drums is nothing short of powerful. The record plays close to their Texas roots and is damn good time. Other standout tracks are “Brass Tracks,” which sounds an awful lot like The Black Keys and “So Cool,” which is just what it sounds like, effortlessly cool. This band is sure to be a great time live, they’ll be performing at Antone’s in Austin on the 25th of August with Uncle Lucius.
