Executive Staff Positions
Station Manager – The Station Manager is in charge of hiring all other directors and managers at KTSW. The Station Manager facilitates communication between all directors and the General Manager. The Station Manager also acts as the liaison between KTSW and all other entities. Previous KTSW experience is required.
Program Director - The Program Director is responsible for the scheduling of programs and supervision of the on-air staff. The Program Director is expected to remain aware of and reviewing all programming content on the air. The Program Director works closely with all departments to coordinate activities of benefit to the station, student participants and the listeners. Prior KTSW experience is required.
Assistant Program Director - Assists the Program Director in all daily/weekly duties including management of the on air staff, critiques, etc. Must be able make decisions in the absence of the Program Director. Must have intricate of KTSW operations and equipment. Requires 10 hours per week. Previous KTSW experience required.
Production Director - The Production Director is the head of the production department and is responsible for all prerecorded promos, PSAs and other spots broadcast on KTSW and recording of programs. Duties include actual production of announcements and programs, managing use of the production studio and assignment of production to Production Assistants. Previous KTSW experience required.
Assistant Production Director - The assistant production director assists the Production Director with prerecorded material broadcast on KTSW. Duties include actual production of announcements, managing use of the production studio and assignment of production to Production Assistants. Previous KTSW experience is required.
News Director - This person is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the news department including the In the Public Interest show, afternoon newscasts and all other projects occurring in the newsroom. They should be familiar with Adobe Audition and know how to work with newsroom equipment. They must be knowledgeable of current events. Previous KTSW News experience required.
Assistant News Director - The assistant is responsible for helping the director in the newsroom and must be able to make administrative decisions regarding the news department in the event the news director is unavailable. This person should also be somewhat familiar with Adobe Audition and be up-to-date on current events. Previous KTSW News experience required.
Graphic Designer: Creates all graphics for KTSW. Responsibilities include creating newspaper ads, flyer's, semester program guides, website graphics and staff t-shirts. Previous designing experience is a plus. No KTSW experience required.
Office Manager - Responsible for scheduling all breaks, keeping files and records, entering production orders as well as answering phones and passing on messages/mail. No KTSW experience required.
IS Manager - The IS Manager maintains and upgrades the mixed network of PC's and Mac's that are critical to the performance of the radio station. No KTSW experience required.
Webmaster - The Webmaster is responsible for the creation, maintenence, and updating of the KTSW Website. This position requires knowledge in PHP, HTML, Javascript, and Dreamweaver. Experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Web-based Applications is a plus.
Sales Manager - The Sales Manager spends most of the time working with businesses throughout the city. The Sales Manager must constantly be searching for new potential clients while building and maintaining relationships with current clients. The Sales Manager is in charge of the Sales Department. Is responsible for selling underwriting and obtaining contributions from businesses for KTSW. No KTSW experience required.
Sports Director - The Sports Director works with the Program Director and Texas State Athletic Department to schedule games for broadcast on KTSW. The Sports Director also schedules the announcers and board operators for each game. The Sports Director works with the News Department.to create sports stories for the daily newscasts. The Sports Director also checks out equipment to the sports staff. Previous KTSW experience required.
Music Director - Music Director is responsible for handling all music that comes through the station and deciding what music goes into rotation. Music Director must also report weekly charts to CMJ, create daily airplay logs, and maintain and clean the music library closet. Previous KTSW experience required
Assistant Music Director - Is responsible for helping the Music Director. These ways most likely include making logs, ripping in music, creating band biographies, updating the pronunciation guide, and filing CDs in the music library closet.
Promotions Director - Promotes KTSW on-campus and throughout the community. Manages 20-30 KTSW promotions employees. Is responsible for event planning, booking bands for on and off campus events, and promoting good will throughout the community. Previous KTSW experience required.
Assistant Promotions Director – Assists the Promotions Director with all administrative duties. Must be able to make decisions in absence of the Promotions Director. Previous KTSW experience required.
General Staff Positions
Production Assistant -
Production Assistants work two to four hours per week and are part of a team that creates and edits prerecorded promos, Public Service Announcements and liners. In addition, an assistant is eligible to work on-air as a request block DJ two hours per week. This is an excellent position for sharpening production skills and on-air studio performance. .
Sports Staff - Provides play-by-play commentary, color commentary, operating control boards, and/or sideline reporting. Knowledge of sports is a must. Knowledge of Bobcat sports and Southland sports is a plus. The Sports Staff also will record/write stories for the daily newscasts.
Disc Jockey - KTSW DJs have a 2-hour air shift once a week. They are responsible for 6 breaks per shift and making sure KTSW stays on time. They do not program their own music, but gain experience on-air and with professional equipment.
Specialty Show Program Producers - KTSW Specialty Show Producers have a 2-hour on-air shift. Program Producers are responsible for providing musical and informative content for their show as well as their own promo and various other on-air elements. The show must serve a niche for KTSW listens. Program Producerss must have spent at least one semester as a regular DJ in good standing with the station. A specialty show includes morning shows. Please submit a Program Proposal with your application.
KTSW Mainstay Programs –KTSW has 3 specialty shows that do not change: The Boombox, playing local and underground hip hop; Lonestar Sounds, playing Texas Country; and The Local Show, exploring and playing local music from San Antonio to Austin. You must have spent at least one semester as a regular DJ before applying for these positions.
Spanish Show – The Spanish Show is a prerecorded program dedicated to the Spanish speaking peoples in and around San Marcos. Applicants must speak, write and read Spanish and duties will include: writing stories that relate to the Spanish community, interviews and hosting the show.
IPI Producers - Producers should be familiar with how to use the Adobe Audition editing program and are in charge of creating a 30-minute public affairs show. They are responsible for scheduling guest interviews, choosing themes, and working closely with the IPI reporters in deciding story ideas. These people must be able to meet deadlines. Previous KTSW experience required.
IPI Reporters - These people are responsible for coming up with story ideas and putting together a 4 – 5 minute story for the In The Public Interest show. They are involved in all aspects of their story, including writing, reporting, recording and producing. Being able to meet deadlines is a must.
Newscast Reporters/Anchors - Reporters are required to research and report stories for newscasts and/or special reports. They will have to work on stories for each day’s newscast. It involves being “on-call,” meaning when a story happens, reporters will need to drop what they are doing and cover the story. Reporters have the option to tryout for anchor. Anchors are required to fully research all assigned stories and report them on-air during the newscasts. Newscasts must be 30 minutes long with local, state, national and world stories. In order to work as anchor, applicants must have a very flexible schedule. Interviewing skills are a requirement. All local stories written must have sound bites.
Promotions Assistant - Promote KTSW on-campus and throughout the community. Attend at least every other KTSW promotions event. Promote good will throughout the community.
Music Editor
Music Editors are responsible for checking out CDs, reviewing them on their own time, and returning them in a week’s time and submit recommendations for airplay.
